Hi everyone, so here is the Hand Drawn Map of New York that I've been working on for what seems like FOREVER! It was once again commissioned by the lovely Evermade.com and was just as hard as the Map of London, if not harder... Anyway, I'll let the images speak for themselves as I have lost the ability to think about anything other than buildings. I hope you like it, New York is a super cool city, and if you wanna buy one you can pick one up HERE.
Thanks to New York for being a great city and surviving Hurricane Sandy.
Thanks to Evermade.com

Simply amazing!
ReplyDeleteJust mind-blowing and genius. You are very talented!

GORGEOUSSSSSS
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome! Love it.
ReplyDeletethis is AMAZING! Holy moly. How do you research it all?
ReplyDeleteCool, I guess Staten Island and the Bronx don't count as parts of New York City
ReplyDeleteAnd Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty are? Both are in NJ.
DeleteAnonymous twats, beat it!
DeleteWhy is the Bronx left out?
DeleteThe natural part of Ellis Island is part of NYC, the surrounding artificially created parts are in NJ :)
Deletethough this is cute, I am honestly hurt not to see the bronx here. You did not fail to include brooklyn, probably because of how important it has become to hipster, but to overlook treasures such as Yankee Stadium is quite criminal. i wish other new yorkers would stop stigmatizing the bronx, and would give it a fair chance. we have a much better little italy than the one in manhattan, which sausages and cheeses like you couldn't find elsewhere in the city. plus the bronx zoo can almost be considered a national treasure, its exhibits are unmatched!
ReplyDeletethanks for making me a bitter new yorker!
This drawing was probably made by some implanted yuppie/hipster who doesn't believe anything outside of the trendy, overpriced parts of the city aren't really part of the city (In order to get to the Bronx Zoo/Botanical Garden, and Arthur Avenue, you have to find your way through the undesirables/coloreds/poors afterall), since they aren't really city types after all. Consider me a bitter REAL New Yorker.
DeleteMaybe she just didn't want to draw the map twice as big, you whiny bitch? She didn't include Staten island either, and barely touched Brooklyn & Queens. It's really a map of Manhattan (Which is what everyone in the nation thinks of when they think of New York).
DeleteHarlem - a part of Manhattan island - is mysteriously missing as well. How (not) surprising. This is map of "Lower Manhattan."
DeleteThis is the part she wanted to draw and it probably took forever. Nobody criticizes Monet for painting only part of his garden. "That Monet doesn't care about Gardenias... he only painted the Lillies!"
DeleteThis is just some girl's drawing, not a city government commissioned representation of New York culture. Nobody has to buy one, either.
It's HER New York... it's not like it's supposed to be accurate (I hope) :P
DeleteThank you for pointing this out. Im a bitter native NY-er too and feel its a slap in the face to un-hip, un-gentrified, un-organic, sustainable and gluten-free NYC and its bullshit. Go back to Omaha if you want to ignore the rest of this great city, kidadults.
DeleteWTF? Gluten-free is because people have either an allergy or a disease, not because it's hip. Man, I hate all those people who use insulin to control their diabetes too, what hipsters.
DeleteI'm a native new yorker who lives FAAAAAAR uptown, and while I wish more of the city was shown, I think this is a great start! Hopefully some day she will add to it and separate borough maps could be purchased, or just one bog ass all 5 one. I am bummed that so much of upper Manhattan is missing (for example you could have an RIP Big L bit up there etc) but I also realize that the portion of Manhattan shown does have a serious awesomeness density. anyways, whether this is it, or hopefully it's just the start, it is a creative achievement, and I salute you.
DeleteSo, Little Miss, what do you have againt people from Omaha? And what is it about NYC that makes so many people so bitter? You all make a person glad, never to have lived there!
DeleteNeeds more Bronx!
ReplyDeleteThis is spectacular work. Were it being sold in the USA, i.e., not so expensive with the exchange rate, I would definitely make them holiday gifts.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your work, and being recognized and hired for a task I doubt many others could accomplish so brilliantly.
This isn't a "map of new York", it's an homage to exclusion. Weak.
ReplyDeleteyou're my favorite person ever for posting this comment. thanks. i was thinking the same thing but you said it so much better.
DeleteSometimes you jsut gotta wonder dude.
ReplyDeletewww.GotzAnon.tk
i heard thattt lol
DeleteIts actually ubelievable. honestly i like HONESTLY cant even believe he/she did this. HONESTLY crying right now OMG loll
ReplyDeleteUm, Bronx?
ReplyDeleteWow, eat a dick you yuppy asshat. No Bronx? No Thonx.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand you people. Why is so important to be Bronx there? The point is how good and detailed work is. Come on people enjoy the art.
ReplyDeleteeasy - just don't name it "Map Of New York City". CAll it, "Map of areas in NYC that mean something to meas an 'artist'..."
DeleteWoodside label is too far west
ReplyDeleteReminds me of Mark Alan Stamaty's work.
ReplyDeleteThose were the first things I looked for when they were in the Village Voice. Back when you had to pay for it and it was actually worth reading.
DeleteDon't feel bad Bronx people--only a VERY small part of Brooklyn is included--not even the larger part of brownstone Brooklyn. I find this map interesting, but pretty disappointing
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love it and I made the map! (well, my business did) Very neat.
ReplyDeleteYou have answered an eternal question of mine-- had anyone ever drawn the city the way you have here, with buildings, etc.???
ReplyDeleteWonderful -- I love it, and congratulate you on the freshness of the design and the vitality the work has.
Very nice job! although i agree that since this is not all of nyc, just the touristy places, it will unfortunately mostly appeal to non-new yorkers. i haven't looked in great detail but i already saw one obvious error - the south st seaport is in the wrong place (that is actually the staten island ferry terminal). but otherwise it's a cool drawing and you are very talented! must have been a lot of work...
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite part is that neither The Bronx nor Staten Island is even hinted at.
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting "map" here, and though I hate that the Bronx is missing, the worst part for me was seeing "Grand Central Station."
ReplyDeleteAppreciate the shout-out to St. B's!
ReplyDeleteWELL DONE JENNI! great work - NOW FINISH THE TOP END OF MANHATTAN YEAH!? COME ON GIRL! :) !!!!!!!
ReplyDelete^^^^ Haters
ReplyDeleteWoW! That is really cool! Nice work :)
ReplyDeletenothing is stopping you people from drawing a map of the bronx and leaving out manhattan.......
ReplyDeleteIf someone drew a map of "NYC" and only drew the Bronx... well wouldn't that be ridiculous. Plus this person did not even bother to draw all of central park, cause god forbid if she did draw all of central park, then she would have had to draw part of Harlem.
DeleteNo Harlem, no Washington Heights, no Staten Island, no Bronx, Not NYC!
Incredible
ReplyDeleteNo Harlem or Bronx? This map is incomplete.
ReplyDeleteWow. So very cool and so well done!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my god you people.. draw your own map that includes the entire godam state if you want. Shut the fuck up about missing "parts" of the city jesus.
ReplyDeleteHear, hear.
Deletei'm gonna just take a guess and say you are NOT a new yorker and that's why you're sick of people complaining. let me know where you're from and i'll draw a map of it excluding all the places that people like you care about and then get back to me on why it doesn't matter.
DeleteI have made many visits to NYC and consider it fascinating a real city - but parts of Brooklym, ugh, so totally boring, each street just like the next. Yecchhh, and Staten Island is so suburban. I like New York City . But as to the Bronx - where is it, and why should we care? Does anything intereasting or beautiful ever happen in the Bronx?
ReplyDeleteWOW, yeah: the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
DeleteKing Kong on the Empire State Building! Yeah!
ReplyDeleteThe art is great!
ReplyDeleteAlso love the comments, saves the rental on a NY based movie by Ben Affleck, Sandra Bullock, J.Lo etc. to hear all that entertaining and derisive banter.
Brent, Australia.
Wow, the rumors are right !
ReplyDeleteGirl draws a neat map and all Yorkers can do is bitch and whine that their subbie got missed off. Get a life
If she had thought more deeply about this, she could of named it "Manhattan, with some of Queens and downtown Brooklyn/Williamsburg only" At least then it would have been honest. There are too many people in "New York" (I assume she means NYC) that not only ignore vast regions of the city, but react with childish petulance when you point it out to them. We are not angry at the art, we're angry that this is all she sees when thinks of the place that we've spent our whole lives in. Have a nice day
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to mention Hurricane Sandy... you should at least include the rest of Brooklyn and Queens.
ReplyDeleteThis is RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING. I'd love to know about your process in doing this.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, it's impressive how detailed it is. Can't imagine how much time did you put into this :)
ReplyDeleteyour ability to not see any person in new york who isn't white is truly incredible. amazing. that must take a lot of effort. go back home please.
ReplyDeleteIt's really cool that so many commenters want to see this treatment for more parts of the city! But don't take it so hard. This piece is pretty large already, and including more neighborhoods would have taken a ton of work, while killing our chances to actually appreciate all the buildings because they'd be so minuscule. Remember that this is a commissioned work, not a personal endorsement of the central city and inner boroughs. I have two humble suggestions: 1 - create your own art in this style to highlight the neighborhoods you love! and 2 - come into these central neighborhoods and share your culture with us more!
ReplyDeleteInteresting piece! I understand why the entire city wasn't included. The artist was aiming for what most people visualize when they think of the City, which is Manhattan. Also it's Grand Central Terminal, not station.
ReplyDeleteI love the look and detail, it's fucking awesome. The haters have some valid points, but what I respect the most is that you allow them to be published. Peace and Love to you.
ReplyDeleteI think this map is gorgeously drawn, but I also have some qualms about it not including upper Manhattan/the Bronx. It's not so much a fault of Jenni as it is the fact that these areas of Manhattan are NEVER represented in artistic renderings of Manhattan. It becomes really annoying after a while, because as a resident of these areas there's already a chance you're marginalized - this just puts it into visual form.
ReplyDeletethis is so amazing, it must have taken ages of painstaking work. I've just discovered your art through the NYLON magazine website, and you've given me some serious inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThis work is artistic, fun, entertaining. It is, above all, art. It's obviously not intended to be a any sort of proportional or realistic navigation equipment. It's a stunning artwork with a lot of character. Well done, Jenni.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I would love to have a digital map to be used on my iPad! Please consider this also as an extra revenue!
ReplyDeleteChrister
Awesome. I love this work.
ReplyDeleteCompliments....
Can you do one for Jersey City? I would buy it
ReplyDeleteThis is a.w.e.s.o.m.e.
ReplyDeleteIs very nice! perfect!
ReplyDeleteAll the retarded posts whining about the Bronx are probably the reason why it's not in the map. Who wants to go there? It got all the morons in New York.
ReplyDeleteHi Jenni, I really like your New York map and look forward to seeing your Berlin map.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to tell you I talked about you and your artwork in my blog about maps http://nonsenseofdirection.wordpress.com
Hope you like it!
Ciao ciao,
Massimo
